An island. A unique art: Hauser & Wirth Menorca.
The Hauser & Wirth galleries on the Illa del Rei are an exclusive refuge for art lovers.
A spectacular contemporary art centre located on the Illa del Rei, an islet sheltered by the port of Maó (Menorca), one of the largest natural harbours in Europe.
This small islet once housed a naval hospital in the 18th century, which has been carefully reconditioned by the Argentine architect Luis Laplace, a regular collaborator of the Wirths, to house this ambitious art project.
The exhibition consists of eight galleries and an outdoor sculptural itinerary, with works by Louise Bourgeois, Eduardo Chillida and Joan Miró. The gardens that embrace the galleries have been designed by the Dutch landscape designer Piet Oudolf and feature a mixture of indigenous and Mediterranean plants.
Hauser & Wirth Menorca opened in July 2021 with Masses and Movements, Mark Bradford’s first solo exhibition in Spain, featuring a selection of sculptures and paintings by the American artist.
The space also has an Educational Lab, which aims to involve both the local community and visitors through activities such as talks, workshops and screenings, and a restaurant, which serves local and seasonal products, especially seafood.
For the 2025 season, Hauser & Wirth Menorca will have works by Mika Rottenberg and Cindy Sherman.
