Dive into the millenary History of Menorca visiting Sa Naveta des Tudons!
It is one of the most important landmarks in the island. Built more than 3.000 years, this impressive megalithic structure is witness of one of the most important civilisations inhabiting the island. Found in an unparalleled natural setting, Sa Naveta des Tudons is the biggest and best-preserved funeral parlour in Menorca. Its singular architecture offers visitors an incredible experience where past turns into live in each Stone.
It was built using a cyclopean technique, i.e. with medium-sized stones fitted together dry, without the use of mortar.
During the archaeological excavations carried out in the 1960s, with the participation of Menorcan archaeologist Mª Lluïsa Serra, the disorderly skeletons of a hundred individuals of both sexes and of all ages were found, most of which were dated to the 9th century BC. The bodies, although in disarray, were accompanied by the personal belongings with which they were buried: bronze bracelets, bone buttons and some bronze weapons. Small pots, ceramic vessels and a decorated bone plug were also found, which formed part of a case in which the hair of one of the deceased was kept, a type of funerary ritual common at this time. These can now be seen in the Museum of Menorca. Come and experience the history of the most Talayotic Menorca.
